Asino Foundation for Oncological Neurosurgery
The Asino Foundation Scholarship
The aim of the award is to support the professional development of a young neurosurgeon by directing the planning of a training internship on the basis of documented personal skills.
The FONDAZIONE ASINO scholarship for Oncological Neurosurgery was awarded to Dr. Daniele Armocida, a prize that the Foundation reserves for specialists in neurosurgery who are members of the SINch (Italian Society for Neurosurgery) and aged 40 or under.
The project proposes a standardised method for analysing the white matter around glioma using new quantitative numerical parameters that can be measured by MRI examination with pre-operative tractography.
Tractography increasingly represents a useful tool for white matter visualization for surgical planning of gliomas since the surgical objective is maximum tumor resection associated with minimal morbidity. At the moment, tractographic analyzes still take on a simple descriptive role, since the recognition of eloquent bundles and the main quantitative metric parameters show various limitations in clinical use.
Initial results document a correlation between some of the parameters examined and grading, recognising a predictive role.
